About Us

The Consortium was formed from four experiences: resource inequities hindering Black-led

businesses and more specifically—Black-centered schools, charter school leaders, theory practice, and dissociations with higher education.

"Initially, I conceptualized the Consortium while working for the U.S. Department of Education in New York City. I was advised to explore

Afrocentric schools and the public charter market in Chicago to better understand the needs of Black children. Another educational leader encouraged me to aim higher, while a charter school leader emphasized the importance of advocating for legislative action and national systemic change in new spaces like policy. Lastly, witnessing the isolation of marginalized, Black-led charter schools near prestigious higher education institutions solidified the need for collaboration."
